“Conditions” is a talk organized by Anti-tectonics in cooperation with Studio – X Beijing (Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University) Saturday November 22nd 2014 at 14:00 at Studio-X in Beijing.
The challenges presented by the fast urbanization process happening in China are unprecedented. It is forecasted that by 2030/2035, 70% of the Chinese population will live in urban conditions (from today’s 50%), with the consequent creation of new urban bodies and migrations from rural territories to the existing and new cities and other urban territories. Therefore, the next decades are crucial for finding a new sustainable balance within cities, rural and natural eco-systems. Architecture and urban planning can play a substantial role in this search.
Can the mutable conditions of today’s China become the basis for radical development of architecture and urban planning disciplines?
